Awake!
A Plea From a Concerned Neighbour
Where is the outrage? Where the disgust? When oil tankers are stolen, Hard-won “rights” become dust, As ICE’d handcuffs appear, To hold captive brown skin, The voices that cry out, Seem muted and thin, Where are the protests, As war drums beat faster? Those bloodthirsty impulses, Will lead to disaster, The whimpers most heard, Are the ones that complain, “My grocery bill’s high, And our taxes a strain.” But what of the horror As health-care costs rocket, Leaving the masses With scant lint in their pocket? And where are the voices To unite and build That seek peace and justice And the promise fulfil, Of a world without bigotry One where freedom is prized, The common welfare of all Was the wise plan devised Those voices are there But too often cower And seldom are heard In halls of real power The voice of dissent Is taken to court Your "tired and your poor" ICE now seeks to deport Mighty USofA, how far your decline Once standing with goodness, Now with Russia aligned?
The lies and deceit Of this current regime Muddy the waters And that is their scheme To profit and gain, With no thought for the middle Their grift brings them riches, While their chief learns to fiddle I hope to see courage So stand up and fight! Protest and march! Do what is right! Persist in resisting And work against hate Love all your neighbours, Until this storm abates I don’t pretend To know the solution But as things now stand You risk dissolution

You're right to be concerned. I don't know on what path my country is heading, but it doesn't look good.
Tim, thank you for expressing what many of us are hesitant to say aloud. I agree that the USA is increasingly aligning with Russia's form of politics, which concerns me deeply. Personally, I am afraid to voice my outrage because I worry about my family in the US, most of whom are Black as well as documented immigrants. Every day, I live in fear for their safety.
